Inter Country Committees started as an initiative of German and French Rotary Clubs who, after the 1939-45 War, launched the idea of an association of Clubs with the aim of re-establishing the bonds of international friendship and the promotion of Peace.

The Rotary ASEAN InterCountry Committee aims to connect and foster stronger ties amongst Rotarians in ASEAN which covers

Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam

While the ASCC has achieved a number of important milestones in various sectors, one of the major challenges is the lack of connectivity between the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) and the other two pillars, namely the Political-Security Community and the Socio-Cultural Community. At present, the emphasis appears to be on the AEC, but such an economic community cannot be sustained without a strong political-security framework, and a robust socio-cultural underpinning. For the latter, one solution is the setting up of an ASEAN Rotary Network with its wealth of expertise and experience in the region to promote a strong sense of commitment and ownership of projects and activities that will gradually help weave into the fabric of the ASEAN Community and help to strengthen social cohesion guided by Rotary’s Areas of Focus.
